Extra info:
Originally intended as the first of a class of large destroyers to escort the CVA-01 Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier project to come into service in the early 1970s
She turned out to be a unique ship: the rest of the class were cancelled with the CVA-01 carrier in the 1966 Strategic Defence Review.

She was the flagship during the Falklands War (1982) and afterwards remained in commission because the Royal Navy was short on hulls after damages and losses incurred in the Falklands

Becoming outdated late 80's, she was significantly modified to act as a training vessel, permanently docked at the tip of Whale Island in Portsmouth Harbour.
